About us
Michael Varnam House is a gated community of 16 self-contained flats and two en-suite community supported detoxification beds, housed within beautifully landscaped gardens located on the north side of Nottingham in the Arboretum.
The service, named after visionary Nottingham GP Dr Michael Varnam, supports people with a primary issue of alcohol dependency and secondary issues of mental health or wider substance misuse.
The team are trained in delivering Smart Recovery group work - a CBT based recovery model.
What we are doing
Alcohol abuse is both a cause and effect of homelessness. Regardless of its cause chronic alcohol addiction must be effectively diagnosed and treated in order to effect long term behavioural change. If this problem is not addressed then any subsequent move away from homeless will be only temporary: move-ons will not be successful and the people involved will inevitably end up homeless or in crisis again. Michael Varnam House offers a sector leading dual approach of either complete abstinence or controlled drinking and delivers consistently excellent results.
