The High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire will spend a night sleeping rough to help local homeless people.

Nick Ebbs, a prominent local businessman, will be taking part in Framework’s Big Sleep Out. The event, sponsored by Nottingham Building Society, will take place at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on Saturday, November 24.

Mr Ebbs, who was appointed to his office by The Queen, has vowed to use his year in office to improve the lives of homeless people and support the work of Framework. He’ll be bedding down in a cardboard shelter and braving the cold with more than 200 other people on the night.

He explained: “My infamous medieval predecessor is best known for persecuting those in greatest need. I am pleased to have the opportunity to use my year in office to do precisely the opposite. I made a commitment at my inauguration to help homeless people across Nottinghamshire and this is a perfect opportunity to do just that.

“By taking part in the Big Sleep Out I hope not only to raise a considerable sum of money, but also to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness and the brilliant work that Framework do in our community.

“I know it will be cold and uncomfortable, but I also know that taking part in the Big Sleep Out will be a really rewarding experience – a chance to get together with like-minded people and learn more about the challenges of homelessness.”

Framework Chief Executive Andrew Redfern said: “We are delighted to have the High Sheriff on board for this, our major annual fundraising event, and thank him for being such an enthusiastic supporter of our work. With all the support he is already offering us he could quite easily have sat this one out. His willingness to lead from the front and get stuck in is of huge credit to him.”

Several hundred people are expected to attend the Big Sleep Out. Each will raise money through sponsorship, which will be used by Framework to help local homeless people off the streets and into accommodation.

Participants can sign up to take part by visiting www.frameworkha.org/bigsleepout. The Big Sleep Out will take place in the car park at the rear of the Brian Clough Stand at The City Ground.

The High Sheriff, who will be joined on the night by Under Sheriff Deborah Hutchinson, can be sponsored here.
