Framework launches 'Heat and Eat' Harvest Appeal

We believe that no one should have to choose between heating or eating.

Many individuals and families we support have low incomes. We have found that an increasing number of them experience periods of extreme hardship as a result of changes to the welfare system. These periods of crisis can force individuals and families to make very difficult decisions: having to choose between heating or eating in the colder months of the year. For some, this will mean nights without heat, hot water, light and the ability to prepare a cooked meal.

In response to this increasing and urgent need, we are appealing for £5,000 to help 250 local people escape an immediate fuel crisis – by providing a £20 card of gas or electricity when a person’s meter runs out. We are asking for your support by making a donation or holding a fundraising event.

We also need 60 community groups, such as Faith Groups and Schools, to support the Harvest Appeal by holding a Food Drive. This will directly benefit our services across the East Midlands, providing meals for vulnerable people in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and parts of South Yorkshire.

Acting now will help someone like Vicky. Vicky struggles with mental health issues and after fleeing an abusive relationship, she was left with nothing at all. Although settled into new accommodation, she was forced to go for several weeks without gas and electricity.

When I first moved in, I had to pay for the move and had no money left for food or bills. I went without hot water for a matter of weeks and wasn’t really eating. I had asked my Mum for food but they didn’t have enough for themselves. That’s when Framework helped me with food and also a card to put money on the gas and electric so I had hot water again. It’s still a struggle but with some support and help on budgeting, I’m getting there slowly.”
